Game rant 1 - I suck at destroying enemy bases...

About (tower defense) games
A conflict has started, I got bored and I need a game to play.
I go and play a couple of mobile games, but quickly get bored.
What shall I do? Ask the dad! From unknown sources he finds
three: Kindom Defense, Mindustry, and Kingdom Rush.
I go and play them all and all 3 get me stuck.
Kingdom Defense and Kingdom Rush: Stuck on a level, bored, and confused because
of the many complicated UI elements.
Mindustry: Supply Turret, glitches, and not passed a single level.
The thing is, all of those games are tower defense games for unknown reasons.
The previous games I played were a semi-possible puzzle game (Merge Gardens),
a quickly-boring city builder (SimCity Buildit) and nostalgia:
an old version of a space shooter (Galaxy Attack: Alien Shooter), a game where
you're a frog and you jump and you pay for every level you play, and a platformer
which I don't remember the name of, but I can at least ZPC it:
u- ^ ↑~| ↑u- ~- ∇ R ↓u|
In Galaxy Attack: Alien Shooter if I remember correctly I conquered all 30 levels
(I think there were 30) or I just got bored. Now the game is ruined.
In u- ^ ↑~| ↑u- ~- ∇ R ↓u| I also (for sure) 100%-ed all 3 parts
of the game. To be honest, it was a really fun experience.
Back on track
With nostalgia out of the way, let's continue.
I then played the games again and again to see which one is the one I become the
least sick of. And the winner is... Mindustry. I started digging deeper into the
topic and I realized there is an official wiki for the ga- Except that it's
for the devs and most of it is autogenerated junk and copy-pasted descriptions of
everything. I then watched some playthroughs to get me on track and sure, it
worked! It was a very dumb mistake: I just didn't get the point of the game and I
didn't know that I needed to feed the turrets with ammo. I also found an unofficial
wiki that's actually a wiki and not some junk. The game went pretty smoothly from
now on until an enemy base appeared. I was completely lost again. I had to produce
units, but how do I command them?
And now we get to the topic-oriented stuff. Flying units or ground units?
Crawler, Dagger, Flare, or Nova? Tier 1 or tier 2? Target the core of the base from
the front, or the back? Well, I still don't know. But the gameplay was going by
sheer luck. I then realized that Quads are overpowered and can easily destroy the
hardest sectors on the planet. (Update: After v8 launched this is no longer true.
Sectors claiming to be "medium" are now like the old eradication bases and the export
system has been changed. I found a pretty decent schematic that uses logic-configured
landing pads to produce units. Now to fully capture Serpulo be prepared to fight A LOT
of hard bases.) And the units are very hard to
command too! For that reason, I designed and implemented logic
(which is kind of like redstone in minecraft) to rally and "clone" the player unit
shooting and moving. I tested it on an attack map - USS IOWA with Cyerce and the
results were great.
But this is only a half of the campaign!
There is Erekir, which has completely independent resources, mechanics,
is full of enemy bases, and has NO LOGIC! I had to resort to multiple guides and fail a couple times.
I did it, but I didn't (and still don't) feel satisfied.
I also realized that the game started as a factory tower defense game and was
never intended for any base attacking.
Luckily, there are custom games and servers, where you aren't doing any campaign,
just doing things for your own satisfaction. But the custom games are boring if
you don't have friends playing with you and servers often have Russians, NSFW-ers,
art space cloggers, autodrillers, or vandals (griefers). "Every time you join
a server, you flip a coin. If it lands on the lucky side, you are enjoying your time,
but if it lands on the unlucky side, you have to deal with bad people with or
without the help of others, which is another coin flip."
I have to note that the game also never intended for having air units. All units
are unbalanced, especially air units. That's why there are no air units on
Asthosus, only hover, support, ground, and tank. Continuing that thought,
the Asthosus devs actually THINK about the players instead of nerfing everything
and throwing tons of bad maps at you. The units (except Aprotodon and Tequant)
get progressively better linearly.
I also found a facebook group which is just full of brainrotten teenagers and
Vietnamese people for some reason.
